“A ‘decent’ amateur golfer, who decided to follow his love of the travel industry rather than pursue one on the fairways of Europe”, would be how I would best describe my past 20 years. In fairness, it was also “probably the right move in the long run!” When school holidays spent in the ‘pot-house’ of kitchens in a local hotel didn’t deter me, a spell in a conference and banqueting department following my graduation from Queen’s University Belfast really set me on my way in the industry.
Four years later and working for Ireland’s leading event management agency, now one of the worlds’ leading destination management companies, I got the opportunity to see life from the ‘other side of the fence’ before an opportunity arose to work at one of the most iconic golf hotels. Situated adjacent to arguably the finest links golf course of Royal County Down in Newcastle, N. Ireland, I acquired an invaluable insight into the niche workings of the golf tour operator.
Communicating daily with experts from around the globe, with the world’s golf media and with the Royal County Down golf club itself in hosting the 2007 Walker Cup between GB & Ire and the USA, it was experience gathering of the finest kind.
Combined with time spent immersed in the world of ‘Virtuoso’ & ‘Signature’ agents in the USA and globally, with professional sports teams such as Manchester United FC and Ulster Rugby and with as diverse a corporate client base as you can possibly imagine and it’s not difficult to understand where the vast extent of my experience and relationships derive.
